The 2013 Limited Edition Collectors Ornament

Christmas in St. Michaels is proud to present the tenth in our series of Collectors Ornaments.

The 2013 ornament, designed by local artist, Joanne Buritsch, uses an antique lantern swinging from a branch to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of St. Michaels, representing the popular legend that depicts St. Michaels as “the town that fooled the British.” It is said that on August 10, 1813 townspeople hung their lanterns high in the trees above the town, causing the British invaders to overshoot their target. Traditional pole lanterns still light some residential streets in the town today.
